The importance of a regular eye examination

Your eyesight is your most precious sense and deserves the highest standards of professional care. After all, without good vision it is difficult to enjoy most everyday activities, including reading, driving and watching TV.

But poor eyesight may also indicate the presence of potentially serious health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Because eye conditions often develop slowly and can be painless, you may not notice any initial symptoms. That is why it is essential to have your eyes examined regularly by an optometrist. The sooner any problem is detected, the greater the chance of it being treated sucessfully.

Taking great care and measures in the early detection of:

• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Diabetes

You will be entitled to a free eye examination if you are:

• Over sixty years of age
• Diabetic
• Diagnosed with Glaucoma or have a family history of glaucoma
• Registered partially sighted or blind

Your eye examination will be free and you will receive financial help towards any spectacles required if you are:

• Under sixteen years of age
• Under nineteen in full-time education
• Require complex lenses
• On income support
• Receiving tax credits with an exemption certificate
• Receiving pension credits with a minimum income guarantee
• Receiving disability working allowance
• In possession of an HC2 or H3 certificate
